Leah Hooey Spotlight

Leah HooeyDr. Hooey completed her residency at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her most memorable moment of her residency was the relationships that she was able to form with her co-residents and faculty. It truly felt like a family. Leah then completed her fellowship at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas with Dr. Cockerell. Her most memorable moment during fellowship was watching and learning firsthand from such an incredible mentor. It was an unforgettable experience to witness Dr. Cockerell’s knowledge, personality, and wisdom. One pearl that she learned in training that still applies to her daily practice is that learning is a lifelong experience. There is so much to learn from every patient and our knowledge grows every day.

In Leah’s spare time, she likes to spend time with her husband, Sean, and their two young children, Ruth and Jace. They enjoy hikes, kayaking down the springs, the beach, and exploring what Gainesville has to offer. They value friendships and try their best to be intentional in building meaningful friendships wherever they go. They love trying new restaurants, participating in their local church, and serving the community.

Some wisdom that Dr. Hooey would like to pass on to others is that life is short and tomorrow is not promised. Everyone is unique and important with different strengths and weaknesses. Working together with compassion, kindness, and love while serving others can help create unity and peace. Leah is excited and honored to be a part of the UF Dermatology family.
